Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a positive plate which provides a high utilization ratio as well as a high volume efficiency, by performing nickel plating on an active-material formed-body which is made of a nickel oxide as an active material and a small amount of a conductive agent. CONSTITUTION:A nickel oxide such as nickel hydroxide is added with small amounts of conductive agents, such as nickel powder and cobalt hydroxide, to make a mixture. The mixture is added with a starching agent which is made up of methylcellulose, a polyethylene single-fiber and water, a paste being prepared. The paste is applied to the surfaces of a nickel net before dried, thus an active-material formed-body being made. Next, the formed body undergoes nickel plating to make a strong conductive matrix to be formed inside the formed body. The former plating is performed, for example, in a plating bath which comprises nickel sulfamate, nickel chloride, boric acid and water, by using a nickel plate as an opposite electrode.
