Abstract
PURPOSE:To realize stable discharge capacity to be obtained over a long period of time by using a zinc electrode which contains a fluorinated high molecular compound as a binder for the active material, as well as either polyvinyl alcohol or polyethylene oxide. CONSTITUTION:A zinc electrode for an alkaline storage battery contains both a fluorinated high molecular compound used as a binder for the active material, and one of the two compounds, polyvinyl alcohol and polyethylene oxide. The electrolyte of the battery contains a gelatinizer. As a result, since the binder and the conductive agent form a surface, on which the electrolyte is fixed and zinc is developed through electrodeposition, even electrodeposition can be carried out easily. Besides, any deformation of the electrode can be reduced since discharge products are held in the electrolyte fixed on the surface. Consequently, high discharge capacity can be maintained over the long period of a charge-and-discharge cycle.
