Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce the internal resistance of a lithium-iodine complex battery, and thereby maintain a high operating voltage after a long preservation period by providing a film made of a given iodine complex on the surface of the lithium negative electrode which touches the positive electrode principally consisting of iodine. CONSTITUTION:A film 6 principally consisting of 1-alkylpyridinium iodide is provided on the surface of a lithium negative electrode 1 which touches a positive electrode which principally consists of iodine and is made of a shifting-charge complex of iodine and an organic hetero-ring compound, or the like. The film 6 can be obtained by applying a solution of 1-alkylpyridinium iodide in an aprotic organic solvent such as pyridine. gamma-butyrolactone, propylene carbonate or 1,3-dioxolan, before the solvent is evaporated. Owing to the above constitution, any possibilities as the discharge proceeds of the rise of the internal resistance of a battery which is caused by a solid electrolyte made of lithium iodide developed between the contacting surfaces of the negative electrode and the positive electrode can be reduced. Consequently, a high operating voltage can be maintained after a long preservation period.
