PURPOSE:To obtain a cell having good discharge characteristics and small change of total height after discharge by using lithium as negative electrode and iron sulfide as positive electrode and mixing sublimable substance to positive electrode active substance and molding them under pressure and heating the substance to obtain a specific positive electrode density. CONSTITUTION:Lithium is used as negative electrode 8, and iron sulfide is used as positive electrode 1, and sublimable substance such as ammonium carbonate, camphor, naphthalene is added into positive electrode mixed agent consisting of positive electrode active substance, scale graphite, and binder, and the substance thus produced is molded under pressure into a pellet form. After heating the pellet in vacuum, sublimable substance is evaporated, and the density of positive electrode 1 is adjusted into the range of 1.9-2.7g/cm<3>. As iron sulfinde, ferrous sulfide or ferric sulfide is used. The amount of sublimable substance is suitably 10-25 parts by weight for 100 active substance. Therefore, corresponding to the positive electrode which retains a necessary amount of positive electrode active substance and the vacant part and expands with the advance of discharge, the vacant part is allowed to absorb electrolyte, and thus the increase of volume of the positive electrode can be suppressed.
