Abstract

PURPOSE: To increase capacity and density and elongate life of alkaline battery by applying predetermined paste mainly containing CdO on core and, after drying, carrying out negative electrolysis of the paste in aqueous solution of nickel salt.
CONSTITUTION: Paste made by mixing and kneading active cadmium material mainly containing CdO, conductive powder, binder and solvent is applied on a conductive core and dried. Then this paste-applied plate is subjected to negative electrolysis in aqueous solution of nickel salt and then formed in alkaline aquous solution. In said negative electrolysis is used nickel chloride or nickel sulfate for nickel salt. Preferably current density in this cose is less than 10A/dm2 to apparent surface area of the paste-applied plate and quantity of electricity 10∼500Ah/g to the weight of active cadmium material. If necessary, nickel acetate may be used for treatment with the current density being less than 2A/dm2 and quantity of electricity less than 10∼250mAh/g.
