Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the deposition of dendrite, as well as the reduction of the capacity of a storage battery, which contains zinc as a negative active material, by providing a second porous current collecting body with liquid holding performance on the negative electrode. CONSTITUTION:An electrolyte 7 made of sixth normal aqueous potassium hydroxide solution saturated with zinc oxide is poured into a container 6. After that, a positive electrode 5 made of a sintered nickel electrode, a separator 3 made of reused cellulose, a positive spacer 4, and a negative electrode 1 prepared by coating a nickel net used as a first current collecting body with a mixture paste of zinc oxide and zinc powder are installed in the container 6, therby constituting a nickel- zinc battery. Here,mats 2 which are made of a fibrous carbon and used as a second current collecting body are plated on both sides of the negative electrode 1. The mat 2 is made of a porous material which has a lower conductivity than the first current collecting body of the electrode 1, as well as a liquid holding ability. For instance, the mat 2 is preferred to be formed by stacking plural pieces of sheet- like porous conductive material with a thickness of below 1mm., such as carbon paper.
