Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent the counter flow of following exhaust gas in an engine having a control valve which is provided in a secondary air passage and acts in response to relatively strong intake negative pressure, by using a thermosensitive valve to detect the counter flow of exhaust gas and opening the valve to move an actuator to close the control valve.
CONSTITUTION: An exhaust passage 3 is provided with a secondary air passage 5 which connects the passage 3 to an air cleaner 4. A control valve 6, which acts in response to relatively strong intake negative pressure at the time of deceleration, and a reed valve 7, which acts in response to exhaust pulsation, are installed in the passage 5. The control valve 6 is opened or closed by negative pressure conducted to the negative pressure chamber 6a of a diaphragm unit from a negative pressure takenout port 9 through a negative pressure passage 8 fitted with a negative pressure regulating valve 12. One end of a branch passage 13 is coupled to the negative pressure passage 8 and the other end is opened into the secondary air passage 5 near its upstream end 5a. A thermosensitive valve 14, which opens in response to the rise in temperature under the counter flow of exhaust gas, is installed at the opening of the branch passage 13 into the secondary air passage 5. When the thermosensitive valve 14 is open, the atmospheric pressure is conducted to the negative pressure passage 8.
