Abstract

PURPOSE: To arbitrarily set timings of supplying air to the air intake system and stopping the supply of secondary air to the air exhaust system in an engine and to control it with one element.
CONSTITUTION: Both diaphragm chambers 4, 5 to which intake vacuum is supplied from an engine through a vacuum conduit 8 are equal at their pressure at normally operating time. A diaphragm 3 is biased upwardly by a spring 6, and a second valve body 18 is brought into contact with a valve seat 21 to thus close the valve and to open a valve seat 20 to thereby supply air from an air supply port 22 through a secondary air port 24 to the air exhaust system. When the engine is decelerated, increased intake vacuum is supplied directly to the chamber 5 and through a delay valve 9 in delay to the chamber 4. Accordingly, the diaphragm 3 is lowered against the spring 6 to thus cause the valve body 18 to be separated from the valve seat 21 and to also supply the air to an air bypass port 23.
