Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide possibility of setting the working curve at a point near the surging limitation in a car supercharger equipped with a by-pass device between the inlet and outlet of turbine by opening/closing the valve of by-pass device according to a sensed occurrence of surging.
CONSTITUTION: Upon inhaling air, a compressor impeller 2 feeds high pressure air through an air supply pipe 6. The pressure in the air supply pipe 6 is introduced into pressure chamber 18 of a by-pass valve operating device 16 and pulls a link rod 15 with a diaphragm 17 in the lower range of engine revolutions, and the valve plate 12 of the by-pass valve 10 will shut valve 13 and opens the by- pass valve 10 with rising supercharge pressure to hold the supercharge pressure constant. When surging is generated during a highland running, the pulsation is sensed with a pressure sensor 22 and the solenoid 21 is energized by a control circuit 23 to open the by-pass vlave 10 regardless of the value of pressure for canceling the surging. Thus the working curve can be set at a point near the limitation.
