Abstract
PURPOSE: To control the supercharging pressure in a highly safe manner, by employing such an arrangement that a relief valve connected to a supercharging air passage is opened by the pressure of air compressed by a compressor and also can be opened by the intake vacuum at a particular operational range of the engine.
CONSTITUTION: During operation of an engine 30, a supercharger 11 drives a compressor 18 by its exhaust turbine 13 for raising the pressure of air introduced from an inlet port 21. The air thus compressed is supplied to engine 30 via an intake manifold 31 together with fuel supplied from a carburetor (not shown). In this state, if the operation of engine 30 is shifted to a high-speed operational mode, an increased supercharging pressure is transmitted via a conduit 23 to a pressure chamber 24 of a waste gate valve 25, so that a valve 28 is opened by a diaphragm 26 and a by-pass passage 33 is communicated. At the same time, a selector valve 9 is opened by a controller 10 and the intake vacuum is introduced via a pipe 6 into a pressure chamber 34 of a relief valve 8, so that the relief valve 8 is opened.
