Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve engine performance in a partial load range where no supercharging effect is produced, by providing a controller which controls a valve to open or close a turbine bypass exhaust passage on the basis of condition of supercharged suction pressure and engine load. CONSTITUTION:A valve 25 provides a means of opening or shutling-off a bypass exhaust passage 24 which bypasses a turbine 21, and is controlled by a controller in such a manner that the valve is opened when a supercharged suction pressure is over a certain level and an engine load is under a certain level. In a partial load range, a lower flow of a throttle valve 14 and a diaphragm housing 31 are communicated to turn a lever 27 to open the valve 25. Thereby, an exhaust gas from a combustion chamber 4 bypasses a turbine casing 21a, so that any increase in back pressure and temperature of suction air may be prevented. Thus, engine performance in a partial load range where no supercharging effect is produced may be improved.
