Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve combustion in an engine, by producing high-speed vortex flow in intake air within a combustion chamber in such a manner that a jet hole opened to an intake passage in the vicinity of an intake valve is communicated, through an auxiliary intake passage, with an opening formed in the wall of the intake passage at the portion opposing to the peripheral portion of a butterfly type throttle valve.
CONSTITUTION: An intake passage 7 which is opened and closed by an intake valve 6 is communicated to a combustion chamber 1. A jet hole 14 opened to the intake passage 7 in the vicinity of the intake valve 6 is communicated with an auxiliary intake passage 16 and the other end of which is opened to the wall of the intake passage 7 of a butterfly type throttle valve 17 of a carburetter 12. When the throttle valve 17 is in an idle opening, intake air passes through a narrow slot around the periphery of the throttle valve 17 at a subsonic speed so that accumulation of carbide on the wall of the intake passage 7 in the vicinity of the throttle valve 17 is prevented, therby to stabilize the combustion.
