Abstract

PURPOSE: To smoothly operate an engine, and to consider a counterplan for exhaust gas, by promoting the atomization of fuel by mounting a by-intake port opening to a main intake passage at the outflow side of a by-intake passage and by installing a valve for injecting fuel toward the by-intake port to the upper stream of the by- intake port.
CONSTITUTION: In an engine provided with a by-intake passage 19, which one end is opened to the upper stream of a second throttle valve 16 of a main intake passage 11 equipped with a first throttle valve 15 and the second throttle valve 16 and introduces intake so that spiral vortex be generated in each combustion chamber 4, a by-intake port 20 with small sectional area opening to a main intake passage 8 of a cylinder head 3 is mounted to another end of the by-intake passage 19 while a fuel injection device 22 is installed to the upper stream of the port 20. Thus, fuel is excellently atomized because fuel is difficult to adhere to an inwall of the by-intake passage 19 and the velocity of flow of intake is large. Mixture is further accelerated by making a caliber of the by-intake port 20 smaller than an inner diameter of an injection chamber 21, and violent spiral vortex can be formed in the combustion chambers 4.
