Abstract

PURPOSE:To get long durability of electrical parts of a plasma igniter for an internal combustion engine by arranging the plasma ignition in such that a part of discharge current is discharge to the primary coil side and the rest between the electrodes and an igniter. CONSTITUTION:A condenser 24 charged by a DC/DC converter 22 before the ignition timing starts discharge through a thyrister 27 by the pulse of a distribution control circuit 28. A part of this current flows through a primary coil 256 into a condenser 30 rapidly. A high secondary voltage is induced in a secondary coil 25 by this discharge current and discharged at an igniter 25. The spark at this discharge destroys isolation, then, plasma-atmosphere is produced. The rest current of high capacity flows through this atmosphere and plasma ignition is operated. In this way, a stairing diode is not necessary and the charged voltage can be set at a lower voltage in the primary coil.
