Abstract

PURPOSE:To secure favorable ignition performance all the time by giving the discharge energy made by a main ignition coil to a spark plug, while making the high-tension energy made by an auxiliary high-tension power source or an auxiliary ignition coil superposable on this discharge energy. CONSTITUTION:When ignition timing is detected by an ignition position sensor 12, a switching element 5 is turned off via a control circuit 4, having a high voltage generated in secondary winding 22 of a main ignition coil 2, and it is impressed on a spark plug 11. In this case, when engine speed by an engine speed sensor 13 is less than the specified threshold value, an auxiliary high- tension power source 10 is operated after the switching element 5 is turned off, and high-tension energy is superposed on discharge energy being produced in the secondary winding 22. When the engine speed exceeds the threshold value, an auxiliary switching element 6 related to an auxiliary ignition coil 3 is turned off, and the high-tension energy to be produced in a secondary winding 32 of the auxiliary ignition coil 3 is superposed on the discharge energy.
