Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent preignition in an engine, by providing in an ignition timing controller a detecting circuit that produces output in accordance with the generation timing of preignition in a spark plug and a spark discharge timing adjusting device that controls the discharge timing in accordance with output of the detecting the discharge timing in accordance with output of the detecting circuit.
CONSTITUTION: Preignition is detected by cancelling spark discharge voltage in a circuit 2 from a signal detected in an ion current detecting circuit 1. Decision of this signal is performed in a comparator circuit 3 for whether it is at least the prescribed value or not. At occurrence of the preignition, a pulse is generated in a pulse width conversion circuit 4 to turn on a transistor T during this generation time, then the ignition angle becomes a retard angle. In this way, troubles in a spark plug and engine due to the preignition can be prevented.
