Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent at ignition coil from burning and to restrect the comsumption of the electrodes of ignition plugs by a method wherein the current feeding timing of the primary current flowing through the ignition coil is controled in proportion to the number of revolutions of the engine. CONSTITUTION:The ignition apparatus comprises an upper dead point signal generator having a disk 3a and a sensor 3b, a switching circuit 12 for detecting the number of revolutions of the engine, a control circuit 13 for controlling the ignition coil 10, etc. When a breaker contact 3 closes, a transistor 5 goes ON to allow an electric current to flow through the primary side of the ignition coil 10 while when the contact 3 opens, the transistor 5 and a power transistor 8 go OFF to interrupt the flow of the primary current so that a high voltage is generated in the secondary side of the ignition coil 10. At the same time, the signal from the disk 3a which is synchronized with the breaker contact 3 is detected by the senser 3b and when the switching circuit 12 detects that the number of engine revolutions is above a predetermined value, it generates an upper dead point signal so that the control circuit 13 controls the primary side of the ignition coil 10 to thereby stop the spark discharges from the ignition plugs. On the contrary, when the number of engine revolutions is below the predetermined value, the control circuit 13 is held inoperative.
