Abstract

PURPOSE:To properly control the rolling speed of a direct rolling mill, by combining an electromagnetic clutch with the output shaft of a driving motor for a direct rol- ling mill united with a continuous casting machine, and by changing the electromagnetic force of the clutch correspondingly to the drawing speed of a continuously cast ingot. CONSTITUTION:A molten metal is poured from a tundish 1 to a continuous casting machine 2; the surface level of the poured molten metal is detected by a molten metal's level gauge 7, and is sent to a speed command generator 8 whose output signal 9 adjusts a driving motor M of a pinch roller 4; hereby, the drawing speed of a cast ingot 3 is controlled so as to always hold the molten metal level 6 at prescribed reference height. Meanwhile, a drawing speed command signal sent from the speed command generator 8 is corrected with information about the draft percentage; hereby, the rolling speed command signal 10 is sent to a mill driving motor control 11 which then compares the signal 10 with a speed feed-back signal 13 sent from a mill driving motor 12; a signal 14 corresponding to the difference resulted from said comparison is sent to an electromagnetic clutch 15 combined with the output of the motor 12, and the rolling speed of the rolling mill 5 is controlled to a proper value fittable to a drawing speed of the cast billet 3.
