Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the break-out in the continuous casting in a contactless system by controlling pouring speed through the use of the fluctuation values of the current of the motor for driving the pinch rolls which draw out the solidified slab.
CONSTITUTION: Sticking is forecast and breakout is prevented by making use of the fact that pulling resistance is in a linear relation with the current of the motor for driving pinch rolls. More specifically, the current of the motor for driving the pinch rolls 3 which pull out the slab 2 being discharged from a continuous casting mold 1 is detected with a detector 4 and the speed controller 6 of the motor for driving the pinch rolls 3 is controlled by the signal from an abnormality detector 5 which has detected its fluctuations to decrease the pulling speed and thicken the solidified shell of the portions where sticking has occured, whereby the occurrence of breakout is prevented. It is equally well to use the signal for controlling the fluctaution values of the pulling speed of the solidified slab in place of the current fluctuation values of the drive motor.
