Abstract
PURPOSE: To foresee break out and prevent the generation thereof by measuring the temp. of a mold for continuous casting in the measuring positions satisfying the specific equation.
CONSTITUTION: On shoft sides 1, 3 and long sides 2, 4 of a mold, the temp. measuring positions thereof are determined at an lmm distance in a casting direction from the meniscus b1, and in this l position, for example, thermocouples are mounted at wmm spacing in a horizontal direction, whereby the temps. are measured. In this case, the distance l and the spacing w are required to satisfy the relation of the following equation: K1.w+l<L-K2.VR.tr, where L: the distance mm from the meniscus of the molten metal in the mold up to the outlet of the mold, VR: casting speed mm/min, K1, K2: the constants determined by casting conditions such as the cooling speed of the mold, casting speed and the like, tr: the time second since the temp. of the mold changes abruptly until breakout occurs.
