Abstract
PURPOSE: To surely prevent breakout by decreasing ingot drawing speed when the molten steel level in a mold lowers down to a control target level or under, and holding this until the ingot grows to the thickness safe against breakout.
CONSTITUTION: A set signal is sent from an ordinary speed setter to a pulling speed regulator to control the level detected with a molten steel level detector in such a way as to attain the preset control target level. When the level lowers down to the target level or under owing to a certain cause, the level detector detects this, and transmits a signal to a change-over device which in turn cuts the signal from the drawing speed setter and changes over the same to the speed command from a safe drawing speed setter, thereby lowering the drawing speed. Upon elapsing of the preset time, a signal is transmitted to the change-over device, thereby returning the drawing speed again to the speed of the ordinary drawing speed setter.
