Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the formation of defects which develop on the surface of cast slab and to remove the difficulty of continuous casting operation, by controlling the secondary cooling water in accordance with the pattern which depends on the draw off speed for the cast slab from the time when a ladle is emptied to the time for reopening the casting after replacement of the tundish in the continuous multiple casting using continuous cating machine.
CONSTITUTION: Continuous multiple casting is performed by distributing and pouring molten steel from a tundish 2 into plural casting mold 3. When cast slab is cooled secondarily with spray 6, the quantity of the cooling water is controlled with a control circuit 7 for the cooling water. When the molten steel in a ladle 1 is used up, a monitoring circuit 10 for replacing the tundish feeds control signals to a circuit 14 for generating cooling pattern. At the same time, the optimum quantity of cooling water in the period from the time when the ladle 1 is emptied to the time when the casting is stopped is decided by a circuit 15 for deciding optimum water quantity according to the information from a speed meter 8 of the cast slab and is fed to the circuit 14, and the quantity of cooling water for the spray 6 is controlled automatically by a controller 16 for cooling water quantity. Hereby the formation of defects or difficulty in the operation causd by the shortage or excess of cooling of the cast slab are prevented.
