Abstract

PURPOSE: To maintain the width of ingots always constant and smooth the operations of postprocesses by performing movement of short sides by the specific equation in accordance with the rates of fluctuations in casting speed.
CONSTITUTION: The movement of short sides is accomplished in accordance with the rate of fluctuatons in casting speed, that is, the equation y=ax2+bx+c for the rate of fluctuation is short sides, according to set reference speed-actual speed (m/min). Here, y: the rate of fluctuation in the width of short sides, mm, x: the rate of fluctuations in ingot drawing speed (m/min), (a), (b), (c) are the constants determined by the reference width of ingots, the kinds of steel, cooling conditions, the set values of the tapers of the mold, roll gaps and the range of (x). Thereby, the ingot is cast always at reference width and therefore the production of excess material is prevented.
