Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the occurrence of breakout of an ingot and smooth drawing motion by applying electromagnetic body force along the drawing direction of the molten steel in a mold upon a feed nozzle and said molten steel. CONSTITUTION:An upper electrode 16 is provided to the top surface 15a of a feed nozzle 15 and a lower electrode 18 to the bottom surface 15b. The electric current shown by an arrow 22 flows from the top surface 15a of the nozzle 15 toward its bottom surface 15b through the molten steel in the nozzle 15. On the other hand, a magnetic field is generated in a direction shown by an arrow 23 between both side surfaces 15c and 15d of the nozzle 15 by magnetic poles 19, 20. Hence, electromagnetic body force in a direction shown by an arrow 24 is generated in the molten steel in the nozzle 15. The direction of this electromagnetic body force is the same as the drawing direction of the ingot. Hence, the molten steel is extruded from the nozzle 15 toward the mold and the ingot drawing from the mold is accomplished without providing any mechanical drawing mechanism such as pinch rollers on the down stream side of the mold, unlike in the prior art.
