Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent the segregation of the chemical components and metallurgical structure of an ingot, the deformation of the ingot, etc. and produce the ingot of superior quality by applying electromagnetic volume force of an upward direction directing from the bottom surface toward top surface of a mold upon the molten steel in a mold. CONSTITUTION:Electric current is flowed in a direction of an arrow 25 by the disposition of an electrode 16, a current collecting electrode 23 and magnetic poles 21, 22, and a magnetic field such as an arrow 26 is generated between the magnetic poles 21 and 22. As a result, electromagnetic volume force in an upward direction shown by an arrow 27, that is, in an antigravity direction, is generated in the molten steel in a mold 18. Namely, if electric current is flowed between the electrodes 16 and 23 from the moment when molten steel is flowed into the mold 18 and the molten steel arrives at an initial surface layer solidification forming part until necessary surface layer thickness is developed, the gravity acting upon the initial surface layer solidification forming part is decreased by the electromagnetic volume force generated upward, and the unbalance of thermal flux owing to downward close contact is reduced.
