Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of double casting surfaces and slag inclusion in the surface of a metallic ingot without causing turbulence and pulsation in the flow of molten metal in the stage of producing said ingot by a belt caster system by installing a linear motor in the lower part of a continuous charging path. CONSTITUTION:The molten steel 4 in a ladle 11 is put into a vessel 5 through a long nozzle 12, and the molten steel is charged into the casting area 3 of a belt caster type casting machine consisting of belts 1, 1' for casting with the continuous charging path 13 consisting of a scooping up part 4 and a down flow part 15. As the belts 1, 1' move it is cast continuously. In this case, a linear motor 16 is installed in the lower part of the scooping up part 14 of the path 13 and alternating electric current is flowed to a coil to apply the moving magnetic field in an upgrade direction, by which the molten steel is flowed upward gently in the part 14 and is charged into the area 3 without causing turbulence and pulsation in the part 15; therefore, the ingot 4' free from defects such as double casting surfaces and slag inclusion on the surface is obtained.
