Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent the formation of dendritic structure, casting blow hole or segregation in a product by alternating the flow of electric current to a coil generating magnetic field with such cycle that the molten metal surface remains stationary. CONSTITUTION: The coil equipment 4 for electromagnetically stirring molten material 3 in a continuous cast cooling mold 1, is arranged around the mold 1 so as to be adjustable in the vertical direction to the mold. The molten metal is poured through an immersion tube 2 into the mold to fill the molten metal in the mold 1. The coil equipment 4 is constituted of 6 pieces of coils 5 arranged along the outer peripheral surface of the mold 1 and at the fixed interval surrounding iron columns 6. The iron columns 6 is provided with a common short- circuit ring 7 surrounded with a metal plate-covered cylinder 8. The coil equipment 4 is connected with a pole inversing device and if necessary, connected with a frequency converter. The flow of the current is adjusted to 1-4 sec of the cycle time.
