Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a steel material of good quality by a continuous casting method by subjecting the residual molten steel to electromagnetic induction stirring by the magnetic field induced by applying the AC of specific frequencies and specified magnetic flux density in mold surface. CONSTITUTION:At the time of charging molten steel together with heat-insulation type flux into a mold with an immersion nozzle and performing nonoxidative casting, AC is applied thereto with the electromagnetic stirrer on the inside wall surface of the mold by keeping frequency f=1.5- 10Hz and magnetic flux density (gauss) G in the mold surface at 268Xe<-0.18f=G<=745Xe<-0.20f> with two poles. The molten steel is drawn out in the downward direction of the mold under the electromagnetic induction stirring by the magnetic field induced by the electromagnetic device. Within the range of approximately <=1/2 the short side of the ingot with respect to the ingot of <=200mm. loop short diameter of the residual molten steel in the ingot and within the range of approximately <=100mm. with the ingot of >=200mm., the residual molten steel is subjected to the electromagnetic induction stirring by the magnetic field induced by applying the AC of frequency f= 1.5-10Hz, and 895Xe<-0.20f=G<=2137Xe<-0.20f> magnetic flux density (gauss) G in the mold surface with the electromagnetic device of two poles.
