Abstract
PURPOSE:To eliminate inclusions and negative segregation in surface layer part and make surface beautiful by subjecting the specific molten steel to electromagnetic induction stirring by the magnetic field induced by the AC of the specific frequencies and specific magnetic flux density. CONSTITUTION:The molten steel contg. >=0.26% C is beforehand prepared in a converter or ladle and this molten steel is subjected to cleaning treatment thence it is supplied together with flux into a mold for casting with an immersion nozzle. At the time of performing non-oxidative casting in the mold, the molten steel is subjected to electromagnetic induction stirring by the magnetic field applied by applying the AC of frequency f=1.5-10.0Hz and magnetic flux density (gauss) G defined by 195Xe<-0.18f=G<745Xe<-0.20f> to an electromagnetic device provided to the inside wall surface of the mold. It is successively drawn out continuously in the downward direction of the mold, and in the state that the negative segregation of the surface layer part is suppressed. It is solidified, whereby the medium- to high-carbon killed steel of good quality is obtained.
