Abstract
PURPOSE:To produce low-carbon killed steel in the state wherein ultrasonically detecable flaws in an ingot are virtually nil by charging molten steel contg. C of a predetermined value or below into a mold for casting while supplying a flux thereto, casting the ingot and agitating the molten metal in the mold and the ingot on the down stream drawn out of the ingot by electromagnetic induction. CONSTITUTION:After the mold contg. <=25% C is cleaned, it is supplied together with a flux through an immersion nozzle into a mold for casting, and is cast at 0.7-3.0m/sec drawing speeds. While said molten steel is subjected to electromagnetic induction agitation by the magnetic field induced by the impression of AC with a frequency f=1.5-100Hz and a magnetic flux density G specified in the range defined by an inequality (I) to the electromagnetic device provided on the inside wall surface of the mold in the stage of casting said molten steel without oxiation in the mold during this time, it is drawn out continuously downward of the mold. Further, the molten steel at the end period of the solidification of the ingot on the down stream of the drawing out of said ingot is electromagnetically agitated by the magnetic field induced by approximately the same AC as that mentioned above, whereby inclusions are reduced; at the same time the molten steel is solidified in the state wherein the generation of holes in the central part is made non, and the low carbon killed steel having no ultrasonically detected flaws at all in the ingot is produced.
