PURPOSE:To smoothly feed powder along the inside surface of a casting mold by supplying AC current impulsively to an electromagnetic coil at the time of curving the meniscus part of the molten metal in the casting mold to a projecting shape by applying electromagnetic force to the molten metal in said mold by means of an electromagnetic coil. CONSTITUTION:The meniscus 3 is curved upward to a projecting shape to accelerate the feed of the powder 4 along the inside wall of the casting mold 1 when the AC current is applied to the electromagnetic coil 5 at the time of applying the electromagnetic force to the molten metal 2 poured into the mold 1 by the electromagnetic coil 5 embedded into the mold and curving the meniscus 3. A solidified shell 6 repeats partially constricted shapes and the spacing between the inside surface of the casting mold and the solidified shell 6 fluctuates periodically when the AC current is supplied impulsively at this time. A large amt. of the powder is thereby supplied to the spacing between the casting mold 1 and the molten metal 2 or the solidified shell 6 and the ingot having defectless surface characteristics is obtd.
