Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent slag from entering into rolling material in a continuous casting and rolling apparatus by providing a weir in a tundish to thereby form two chambers therein so as to remove slag. CONSTITUTION:A tundish 2 and an inlet nozzle 4 are preheated by a heater 21. Then, molten metal 7 in a melting and holding furnace 14 is fed into first chamber 13a of the tundish 2. Thus, slag 10 produced upon making contact with the atmosphere is floated on the molten metal surface. A weir 8 is provided in the tundish 2 to prevent the slag 10 from flowing into the second chamber 13b but to flow the molten metal 7 from an outlet 9 into the second chamber 13b. The slag 10 mixed into the molten metal 7 is floated. Then, the molten metal 7 flown out from the nozzle 4 upon lifting of a stopper 19 is flown into the gap 6 between cooled metallic rollers 5 and 5' to be thus continuously cooled and solidified and rolled therebetween.
