Abstract
PURPOSE:To stir the molten steel in an unsolidified ingot efficiently by disposing a pair of electrodes opposite to each other in the upper and lower part of said ingot, disposing a pair of magnetic poles oposite to each other in the upper part at the center of the ingot and forming electromagnetic force with electric current and magnetic fields. CONSTITUTION:A pair of electrodes 4, 4' are brought into contact with the upper and lower angle parts of an unsolidified ingot 3 of a square shape in section in a secondary cooling zone, via rollers 5, 5', and a pair of magnetic poles 6, 6' are disposed opposite to each other on the outside surface in the upper part of the ingot 3 spacially slightly therefrom. DC current I is flowed via the rollers 5, 5' from the electrodes 4, 4' to the ingot 3, and a DC magnetic field B is formed by the poles 6, 6'. Electromagnetic force F is acted in the drawing direction of the ingot 3 in the upper layer part of the molten steel 3' in the ingot 3 by the mutual effect of the current I and the magnetic field B. Thereby, the molten steel 3' is flowed and stirred. The magnitude of the stirring force is controlled easily by changing one or both of the DC current I and the DC magnetic field B.
