Abstract
PURPOSE: To surely release air out of a fluid passage and smooth the shifting to pumping-up or electricity generating operation, by filling water into the runner chamber of a low pressure stage while discharging air out of the runner chamber and by starting exhaust from the runner chamber of the adjacent high pressure stage after the filled water in the runner chamber of the low pressure stage has reached prescribed pressure.
CONSTITUTION: An exhaust pipe 17 is connected to the cover 4 of a high-pressure-stage runner chamber 8. An exhaust pipe 18 is connected to the cover 6 of a low-pressure-stage runner chamber 9. Exhaust valves 19, 20 are provided in the exhaust pipes 17, 18. When compressed air in the low-pressure-stage runner chamber 9 is discharged by opening only the exhaust valve 20, water in a draft tube 16 is gradually filled into the low-pressure-stage runner chamber 9 and the filled water is pressurized by a low-pressure-stage runner 3. When the pressure of the filled water is stabilized, the exhaust valve 19 is opened to discharge air from the high-pressure-stage runner chamber 8 and fill into it the water pressurized by the low-pressure-stage runner 3. According to this constitution, exhaust is surely effected. Racing operation can be smoothly shifted to pumping- up or electricity generating operation by opening guide vanes 15 after the completion of the exhaust.
