Abstract
PURPOSE: To avoid exposing a casing to a high pressure condition by a method wherein high-pressure compressed air is directly applied to only an inner passage which is on the inner side of a guide vane and is directly connected to a draft tube, so as to lower the water level.
CONSTITUTION: The guide vane 4 and an inlet valve 6 are so controlled that the vane 4 is fully closed earlier than the valve 6. When the vane 4 is fully closed, compressed air is supplied to the inner passage through an air supplying pipe 8 to depress the water within the inner passage to a specified level, and the supply of air is interrupted. When the valve 6 is fully closed, the passages on both sides of the vane 4 are communicated with each other to balance the pressure therein, then the vane 4 is opened and the residual water in the outer passage is discharged through the draft tube 7 by the centrifugal effect of a runner 2. When this operation is accompanied by a rise in the water level within the inner passage, the water level is controlled to return to the specified level by supplying air through the pipe 8. As a result, the water level in the outer passage is also depressed to the level of an opening part of the pipe 10 which is lower than the guide vane 4, so that the runner operation is shifted into an in-air rotation.
