Abstract
PURPOSE: To manufacture the titled glass while minimizing the generation of a strain by heat treating borosilicate glass to separate the phase into an acid soluble phase and an acid insoluble phase, treating the phase separated glass with lower and higher concn. mineral acids in 2 stages, and calcining the treated glass,
CONSTITUTION: Borosilicate glass contg. SiO2, B2O3 and Na2O as principal components is heated treated to separate the phase into an acid soluble phase rich in B2O3 and Na2O and an acid insoluble phase rich in SiO2. The phase separated glass is treated with ≤2.5 N mineral acid in the 1st stage to dissolve the acid soluble phase. At this time, by regulating the concn. of the used mineral acid in accordance with the thickness of the glass molding, the quantity of a strain is reduced. The resulting porous glass is further treated with ≥2.5N mineral acid to remove the ultraviolet absorbing component remaining in the glass. After finishing the 2nd stage, the porous glass is calcined by an ordinary method to manufacuture high silicate glass with high ultraviolet transmittance.
