Abstract

PURPOSE: To form a silica-rich nonreflecting layer on the surface of soda lime glass with a specified bivalent metallic oxide content in a short time by immersing the glass in a silica-supersatd. aqueous soln. of hydrosilicofluoric acid.
CONSTITUTION: The total amount of bivalent metallic oxides such as CaO and MgO in the composition of soda lime glass is specified to 12W20wt%. This glass is immersed in a silica-supersatd. aqueous soln. of hydrosilicofluoric acid to form a porous silica-rich nonreflecting layer on the glass surface. By this method large-sized nonreflecting glass for a solar heat collector, etc. can be manufactured in large quantities.
