Abstract
PURPOSE: To enhance the acid resistance and homogeneity of optical glass by controlling the B2O3 content of the SiO2-B2O3-BaO basis composition as low as possible, introducing ZrO2, and adding one or more among CaO, SrO and ZnO.
CONSTITUTION: This optical glass has a composition consisting of, by wt., 28W 42% SiO2, 1W7% B2O3, 35W50% BaO, 1W6% ZrO2, 3W15% in total of one or more among CaO, SrO and ZnO, 0W15% PbO, 0W3% Al2O3, 0W3% TiO2, 0W 3% Na2O and/or K2O and 0W1% As2O3 and/or Sb2O3. This glass has desired optical performance and is superior to conventional glass in acid resistance. It contains no expensive component, does not tend to devitrify, and can be homogenized easily, so this glass can be mass-produced by a known method.
