PURPOSE: A glass composition for forming short fibers, containing SiO2, Al2O3, CaO, R2O and ZnO as essential components, and if necessary MgO, B2O3, etc., and having improved properties.
CONSTITUTION: A composition consisting of 59W66.5wt% SiO2, 2W8wt% Al2O3, 4W12wt% CaO, 0W6wt% MgO, 6W14wt% CaO+MgO, 14W18wt% Na2O+K2O, 1W7wt% ZnO and ≤6wt% B2O3 is used as a composition suitable for preparing short fibers by the centrifugal method. The resultant composition has improved physical properties suitable for preparing short glass fibers and has improved economical conditions due to the easily available raw materials.
