Abstract
PURPOSE:To save energy, by augmenting a part of propelling force by an output of a steam turbine that uses as its heat source the waste gas produced from a main engine. CONSTITUTION:An output shaft of the main engine 1 is connected with a reduction gear 3 of a propeller 4 through a clutch 9, step-up gear 5 and a clutch 10. The waste gas of the main engine 1 is sent to a waste gas boiler 8, the steam generated at the boiler 8 drives a steam turbine 2, and the resulting driving force can be transmitted to the reduction 3 through the clutch 11. A main power generator 6 is connected to the step-up gear 5, and the electric power generated thereby is supplied to an inboard electric power load 14.
