Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce the fuel consumption of a main diesel engine, by driving a synchronous rotary machine, which has a variable number of poles, when there is a margin in the produced electric power of an exhaust-turbine-driven electricity generator, and by feeding the generated electric power of the rotary machine as a supplement when the electric power of the electricity generator is insufficient. CONSTITUTION:A synchronous rotary machine 15, the number of poles of which is variable, is connected to a main diesel machine 1 through an overdrive gear 3 and a constant-frequency means 20. An electricity generator 12, which is driven by an exhaust gas turbine, is connected to an exhaust gas economizer 4 for recovering the energy of the exhaust gas of the main diesel engine 1. When there is a margin in the produced electric power of the electricity generator 12, the synchronous rotary machine 15 is driven as an electric motor by the margin in the electric power. When the produced electric power of the generator 12 is insufficient, the electric power is supplemented with that of the synchronous rotary machine 15. This results in reducing the fuel consumption of the main diesel engine 1 and improving its operation.
