Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable generated steam to be utilized for electrical generation and as well for assisting a propulsion unit, by connecting a drive system for a marine generator to a mixed pressure turbine which is driven by both a main diesel engine and steam generated from an exhaust gas economizer. CONSTITUTION:The rotary shaft of a generator 21 is coupled to the output shaft of a mixed pressure turbine 22 and as well coupled to the output shaft of a transmission unit 23 for a main diesel engine 25. Further, the mixed pressure turbine 22 is driven by both high pressure steam 29 and low pressure steam 30 generated from an exhaust gas economizer 27 which retrieves waste heat from the main diesel engine 25, and the main diesel engine 25 is coupled to a propulsion unit 26 through a speed reduction unit 24. Accordingly, waste heat from the main diesel engine 25 may be utilized to drive the generator 21 and surplus power which is offered when the amount of retrieved waste heat is in excess of the demand power, may also utilized to assist the propulsion unit 26 through the transmission unit 23 and the speed reduction unit 24.
