Abstract
Power unit consists of an i.c. engine running pref. on gas or light oil turning an electric generator by means of a hydro dynamic torque converter. The power loss commonly accepted by the torque convertor coupling is compensated by the fact that the engine can be stopped at off peak load times and readily restarted by using the generator, drawing current from the grid, acting as an electric starter motor. The convetor (1) serves as an infinitely variable gear between engine (2) and generator (3). The engine cooling water runs in a closed cyle with the torque convertor heat exchanger (4), the waste heat boiler (5) for the exhaust gas and the heat exchanger for the consumer (6).
