Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent any leakage of the electrolyte of a sealed alkaline battery by providing a ceramic member coated with a metalized layer in the space formed between a battery case and a current collecting lead which penetrates the case, and brazing the sealing part by means of a brazing material principally consisting of nickel. CONSTITUTION:A sealing part 9 of a sealed alkaline battery is formed by attaching an annular insulating separating member 4 made of ceramics in the annular space formed between a battery case 2 and a metal current collecting lead 3 which penetrates the central part of the case 2. The separating member 4 is partially coated with metalized layers 4a, and the layers 4a are coated with nickel plating layers 4c. The layers 4a and 4c are formed only in the interfaces between the separating member 4 and the metallic parts of the sealing part 9. A brazing layer 4b made of a brazing material, which principally consists of nickel and contains at least no silver and copper, is interposed between the above metallic parts and the above plating layers 4c so that the separating member 4 is made to be in close contact with both the current collecting lead 3 and the battery case 2.
