Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase the discharge performance of a battery and prevent any loss of a fused metal, by using an electrode which is made by applying a fused metal active-material to a thin base body. CONSTITUTION:A thin base body is made of an insulating paper, a nonweaved cloth or the like such as nonwoven Vinylon, which has resistances to an electrolyte and to an active material and also possesses permeability to ions. A metal active-material 6 is fused and applied to the base body 5 to make a negative electrode for a battery. The metal active-material may be zine, cadmium, lead, lithium, magnesium, alminium, silver or the like. For example, 2.0phim/m of zine wire which is of 99.99% purity (for the active material 6) is heated and fused by feeding a current of 20V and 200A, and the fused zinc is applied to the base body 5 made of non-woven Vinylon with the help of a fusing-and-injecting nozzle. Here, if the abovementioned process is carried out in an atmosphere of either an inactive gas or a reducing gas, the oxidation of the surface of the active material can be prevented. Besides, the thickness of the metal active-material which is applied to the base body 5 can be equalized, by shifting the nozzle and the base body 5 relatively to each other. A negative electrode 4 is prepared by punching the thus obtained body. Consequently, the discharge performance of a battery can be enhanced, and the loss of the fused metal can be eliminated.
