Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve the corrosion resistance of electrode terminals against an alkaline electrolyte by plating metal rings with Ni beforehand as a primary layer and then Cu thereon. CONSTITUTION:A metal ring 1 is plated with, for example, Ni 5 of 1-2mu thickness as a primary layer to prevent the ring 1 from the corrosion by an alkaline electrolyte, and the surface of Ni plating 5 is plated with, for example, Cu 6 of 2-3mu thickness to improve its tightness to glass surfaces. With such a constitution, the two layers of metal platings 5, 6 become a layer of metal alloy 7, whose corrosion resistance is far superior to that of a base material (pure iron) and which covers the entire surface of the base material to prevent its corrosion, by the heat caused when the two layers of metal plating are sealed. And the layers of fused metal platings functions as a soldering material, thereby connection of a battery can 4 and the metal ring 1 is performed at the same time as the two layers of metal platings are sealed and the conventional welding step can be eliminated.
