Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the catalyst having high activity in synthesizing oxalic diester using a gaseous phase catalytic reaction of carbon monoxide and nitrous acid ester by a method wherein a carrier is impregnated with an aqueous solution of platinum group metal salts and the impregnated carrier is subjected to alkali treatment and liquid phase reduction.
CONSTITUTION: As the catalyst in synthesizing oxalic diester using a gas phase catalytic reaction of carbon monoxide and nitrous acid ester, one prepared by a method wherein a carrier such as alumina, activated carbon or the like is impregnated with an aqueous solution of salts of a platinum group metal such as palladium, platinum or the like and, after impregnation, the impregnated carrier is subjected to alkali treatment using sodium hydroxide or the like and, subsequently, the alkali treated substance is subjected to liquid phase reduction using hydrazine, formal-dehyde or the like is used. This platinum group metal catalyst shows effective catalytic activity.
