Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the catalyst with high activity in synthesizing oxalic diester using a gaseous phase catalytic reaction of carbon monoxide and nitrous acid ester by a method wherein a corrier is impregnated with an aqueous solution of platinum group metal salts and, after impregnation, the impregnated carrier is subjected to alkali treatment and gaseous phase reduction.
CONSTITUTION: As the catalyst in synthesizing oxalic diester by gaseous phase catalytic reaction of carbon monoxide and nitrous acid ester, one prepared by a method wherein a carrier is impregnated with an aqueous solution of platinum group metal salts and, after impregnation, the impregnated carrier is subjected to alkali treatment and, subsequently, the alkali treated substance is subjected to gaseous phase treatment using a reducing agent such as hydrogen, carbon monoxide or the like is used. This platinum group metal catalyst shows excellent activity.
