Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare an aromatic primary amine, in high yield, by the catalytic reduction of the corresponding aromatic nitrile under specific conditions.
CONSTITUTION: An aromatic nitrile (e.g. benzonitrile) is subjected to the catalytic reduction with Pd catalyst in the presence of CO2 to obtain the corresponding primary amine (e.g. benzylamine). The reaction is carried out in a low-cost aqueous solvent without using a strong acid or strong alkali, and the corrosion of the reaction vessel can be prevented. Since the yield of the primary amine is high, its purification is easy. The absence of NH3, etc. in the reaction system facilitates the treatment of waste gas.
