Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide catalyst having high activity at low temperature comprising a bromide or a chloride of iron on at least one carrier selected from activated alumina, silica-alumina and natural or synthetic zeolite.
CONSTITUTION: At least one selected from the group consisting of activated alumina, silica-alumina and natural or synthetic zeolite is impregnated with a solution of iron bromide or iron chloride to support the compound on the carrier. The preferred ratio supporting these compounds on the carrier is in the range of metal (g)/carrier (g)=0.02W0.1. The so-produced catalyst shows high activity at low- temperature. For example, the temperature of exhaust smoke after the treatment of liquid purification is below 18°C even through the required rising of the temperature is taken into consideration. The catalyst shows high denitration rate at low temperature with a very short contact time.
